The First Step is....

...admitting that you have a problem. Ravelry may have forced me to reevaluate my knitting style. All this time I was happily thinking that I'm a project knitter - I really don't have much yarn outside of what's been designated for specific upcoming projects (It's not like my fabric stash - Fat quarter here and there adds up after awhile - and be honest you tend to buy in 1/2 yd mins). I haven't really figured out how to buy just a bit of yarn here and there that I like - because I don't know how much to buy to conservatively and know that I can use it down the line (if someone has tips for this - would be much appreciated - no wait, I'm supposed to be admitting that I might have a problem). So I come home from work yesterday with the idea that I will document my yarn stash in my Ravelry notebook. It shouldn't take very long - I don't have much after all, right?? Five hours later.....

Ohh sooo very wrong....
[conscience] Kati, What about those five skeins of turquoise merino/silk that you bought from Miss Babs?
[deluded self] Wellll, she was changing her inventory, they were the last ones and on sale really reasonable...
[conscience] Ahhh - that's known as selling things.... doesn't mean you need to buy. You don't even know what you are going to do with it.

[conscience] What about all the stuff you bought when you visited Vermont in June?
[deluded self] I was on vacation! We must visit fabric and yarn shops. Mom agreed and Mom knows best, right?? Plus, you can't go and visit all the lovely LYS and not purchase something - it would be rude. I was raised with good manners. In addition, they were for specific projects - I had a little notebook - didn't I? Where is that now??

[conscience] Keep trying to rationalize - your usually pretty good at it. Try and explain the 75 million balls of cotton that you have - How many dishcloths are you planing on making? Plus you bought more Sugar'nCreme SUPER balls a JoAnn Fabrics this weekend. Sheesh....
[deluded self] They make good gifts and I can make them up pretty quickly if I need to. Add a nice fancy soap or lotion and they look pretty. I don't keep them -- so they are all in the spirit of giving.
[conscience] Oh spare me! She's rationalizing again.

I could continue on with the mental "discussion" that I've been having with myself since last night. But, I think I'll just stick with my delusions -- the yarn really is beautiful isn't and I'll use it for something. I can always find a project -- isn't that what Ravelry is for? [conscience] Think you can find some time too. [deluded self] Oh, Shut Up!
